Welcome

Dear Participants!

As mayor of the community of Dorfgastein I warmly welcome you to the 34th

European Hiking Days in Dorfgastein.

Dorfgastein is situated in the heart of Austria, in the federal state of Salzburg and forms the Gastein Valley together with the towns of Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein.

Dorfgastein has about 1,650 inhabitants and houses up to approximately 1,700 guests.

The lowest point of the village lies in the Gastein Gorge with approx. 760 m,
the highest elevation is the Bernkogel with 2,325 meters.

With over 40 kilometers, the Gastein Valley is the longest side valley of the Salzach, situated in the mountain group “Hohe Tauern” and is also part of the “Hohe Tauern National Park”. The highest point of the valley is the Ankogel with 3,246 meters.

In Gastein we have a network of hiking trails of over 600 kilometers – from the comfortable promenade along the brook “Gasteiner Ache” via trails in all areas up to high alpine climbing into the world of the 3,000-meter mountains.

Dorfgastein Mountain Hiking Pleasures framed by the lush green meadows of the mountain flanks is a visual paradise.

There are hiking trails just outside the front door, as far as the eye can reach.

The region has been assigned the Austrian Hiking Quality Seal which assures that standards for infrastructure and road networks are met.

I wish you a pleasant stay in Dorfgastein, great hiking experiences and nature enjoyment among the “family” of the European hikers.

Rudolf Trauner, Mayor

Dorfgastein welcomes Europe

As president of the V-EVG Europe Walkers Association I hereby warmly invite you to participate in the 34. Europe Hiking Days in the Gasteiner-valley in Austria. I personally am looking forward again after more than 10 years to experiencing the Europe Hiking Weekend in Austria.

In our mobile time, many feet and legs play a subordinate role as a means of locomotion. They are so much more important when the hiking, outdoor movement, fresh air and sociable togetherness are so popular as folk sports.

Clothing adapted to weather conditions and proper footwear, more is not needed to get on the Walk. For free, the Nature provides the Terrain. Gentle valleys, green meadows, shady forests and architectural contemporary witnesses invite you to wander around Dorfgastein.

Yours sincerely

Hermann Brozat.
